Condolences to Cardinal Maida from Pope Benedict XVI
From the Vatican, January 31, 2008

To My Brother
His Eminence Cardinal Adam Maida
Archbishop of Detroit

Having learned with sadness of the death of you beloved mother, Sophie Cieslak Maida, I send my heartfelt condolences to you and all the members of your family, assuring you of my spiritual closeness at this time of sorrow.  I commend your mother to Almighty God's merciful love and pray that he will bestow his gifts of consolation and strength upon all who mourn her passing.  As a pledge of consolation and peace in the Risen Lord, I extend my Apostolic Blessing.

Benedictus PP. XVI
