A Call to Pilgrimage to the Youth and Young Adults of the Archdiocese of Detroit:
Step into a new era of faith renewal with Archbishop Maida

I call upon each of you to join me in a great pilgrimage.
I ask that you do two things. First, I ask that you and your fellow young people in their teens, 20s and 30s commit yourselves to a very active role in your parishes. Second, I invite you to join in our Archdiocese to meet with our Holy Father when he comes to Denver to celebrate World Youth Day in August 1993.

Let's begin our pilgrimage now. I invite you to pray each day, perhaps using the Scriptures, reflecting on God's call to you: How am I using my gifts and talents? (Mark 10: 17-22, Jeremiah 1: 4-10, Sirach 2: 1-11).

Whatever needs you see, I urge you to take action. If you see a need for a youth or young adult group in your parish, I ask you to help form one. If you see an area of church life which needs greater youth participation, please make your ideas known and volunteer. If you need help from your parish, ask for it.

I want so much to hear from you. I invite you to come to Shrine of the Little Flower church in Royal Oak (at Woodward and 12 Mile Rd.) on Sunday, November 1, 1992, at 5:00pm, to share your ideas with me. If you cannot meet with me in person, please write me at 1234 Washington Blvd., Detroit, Michigan 48226. Let me know what I can do to help you experience a renewal of faith.

What will I do with your ideas? A Council of Youth & Young Adults has been formed to help me review and act upon your ideas and suggestions.

"I invite you to join me in this special pilgrimage of renewal…
Beginning now, in these final months of 1992, please pray and reflect on your spiritual needs. Discuss your faith concerns, you hopes and dreams with other young people, especially friends and family who may no longer be active in their faith. Voice your concerns to your pastors, and be involved in your parish programs of worship, educaiton and service.

Then in August 1993, come with me on a journey to Denver, to meet with our Holy Father. I woud like to take thirty or more young people from each parish on this journey. Let us share with the Holy Father and with each other the story of our faith journey."

Sincerely yours in the Lord,

Most Rev. Adam J. Maida
Archbishop of Detroit
Fall 1992
