Archdiocese of Detroit sends $1 million in help to Haiti

DETROIT – Contributions to Haiti relief efforts collected and sent to Catholic Relief Services by the Archdiocese of Detroit reached $1 million as of late Monday.
The figure represents donations received by mail, via the Internet and raised through special collections in churches of the archdiocese.
CRS will funnel the money through its partner organization in Haiti to assist relief and reconstruction efforts to benefit survivors of the Jan. 12 earthquake and subsequent aftershocks that devastated the Caribbean nation.
As the U.S. bishops' agency for overseas relief, CRS works hand-in-hand with other countries' official Catholic relief agencies, which typically operate under the name Caritas.
